I live opposite a pub. before the liberalization of the licensing laws, I only really noticed much ructions at closing time. Now It's pretty much all night long. On mentioning this to the Police, the official attitude seems to be "Well, it makes our job easier, rather than having to deal with lots of problems all at once.....".
